Page Top - What happens if I let my holiday home?
Your Hiscox policy automatically covers you for any legal liability you may have towards your tenants.
Page Top - How much should I insure for?
The cover provided by the insurance is on a "new for old" basis and therefore the sum insured on contents, should be the cost of replacing carpets, furniture etc. by new. The sum insured on buildings should be the cost of rebuild not the market value. Most property surveys will include a cost of rebuild for insurance purposes.
The Association of British Insurers website has an online rebuilding cost calculator which can be used to calculate the rebuild cost of UK homes.
Page Top - What legal liability cover is included?
Claims for third party liability, i.e. claims from members of the public and also holidaymakers are automatically covered for an indemnity of £5m any one occurrence, plus legal costs and expenses. In litigious times this cover will protect you if for example a guest slips on a cracked pathway within your property boundary causing injury, and decides to take legal action.
Page Top - What does accidental damage extension to contents mean?
The standard wording covers listed contingencies, such as fire, burst pipes, theft etc. (see section two: contents, of the policy wording). At an additional premium the standard cover on the contents of holiday homes can be extended to include other accidental loss or damage claims, for example, staining of carpets or breakage of furniture. This also covers accidental damage caused by guests.
Page Top - What are the policy Excesses?
Please refer to your policy wording for details of all excesses applicable to this policy.
Page Top - What taxes are included?
All quotes for overseas property include the applicable local taxes (*except where the policy is written on a non-admitted basis and the non-admitted clause applies to the policy).
Page Top - What happens in the event of a claim?
All claims are handled by Hiscox's UK based team. If the claim is large or complex they will appoint an English-speaking loss adjuster to help you through the process.
